Corbin ‘tricks’ Capital Boyz to second win
6 hrs ago Comments Jameel “Shooter” Neptune FLASHBACK: Jameel “Shooter” Neptune, foreground, represents Trinidad and Tobago at the CONCACAF Futsal Championships. trinidadexpress.com/sports/local/corbin-tricks-capital-boyz-to-second-win/article_512c35da-9173-11ee-b69e-5358d796b344.htmlKADEEM CORBIN’S first hat-trick of the 2023-2024 T&T Premier Football League (PFL) season was overshadowed when his AC Port of Spain team-mate Jameel “Shooter” Neptune broke a leg in AC Port of Spain’s 4-1 victory over 1976 FC Phoenix at the Dwight Yorke Stadium on Friday night. Neptune, 30, has represented Trinidad and Tobago on the national futsal team and, most recently, with the senior men’s national team during a 1-0 win over Guatemala prior to the CONCACAF Gold Cup. The star of the night was national striker Kadeem Corbin, who netted a hat-trick, while Sedale Mc Clean also found the net as AC Port of Spain followed up on their season-opening 2-0 win over Morvant Caledonia United. At La Horquetta, Isaiah Lee (19th and 34th) netted a brace and Tyronne Charles got the other as home team La Horquetta Rangers won 3-1, handing Morvant Caledonia United a second defeat of the season. Lee and Charles have netted in both matches and share the five goal Rangers have scored this season between themselves. Tevin Scott (67th) found the net as Caledonia scored the lone goal in the second half. Earlier on Friday night at La Horquetta, last season’s third-placed finishers Tiger Tanks Club Sando got the new season off to a winning start, edging Central FC 1-0 on a Shervonez Hamilton goal in the 31st minute. Sam bags double, but Police hold Army in TTPFL
RONEIL WALCOTT 12 HRS AGO newsday.co.tt/2023/12/04/sam-bags-double-but-police-hold-army-in-ttpfl/Police FC defender Alvin Jones, right, holds off Defence Force's Kaihim Thomas during a TT Premier Football League match at the Police Barracks, St James on Sunday. - Photo by Daniel Prentice DEFENDING TT Premier Football League (TTPFL) tier one champions Defence Force were held to an exciting 2-2 draw by Police FC in the "servicemen derby" at the Police Barracks, St James on Sunday evening. Army looked to be in the ascendancy as they took a 2-1 lead just before halftime, thanks to a pair of headed goals by their giant striker Brent Sam. On both occasions, Sam rose above the Police defence to beat goalkeeper Adrian Foncette following lovely crosses by in-form Soca Warriors attacker Reon Moore. The electric Moore, playing on the left flank, and his Soca Warriors teammate Alvin Jones, at right back, had an almighty battle, with neither player giving an inch in a physical joust. Jones, who was named to the Concacaf Nations League A Best XI for both the October and November Fifa windows, dealt with Moore's pace astutely in their one-on-one duels. Moore was voted to the Nations League A Best XI in October, and showed his pedigree in the contest. The Defence Force attacker used the breathing space afforded by Jones to whip accurate crosses into the area, and Sam's goals in the 32nd and 43rd minutes pegged back the Police team which took a 17th-minute lead through Kwesi Allen. Defence Force had the lion's share of the possession in the second half, but they could not drive home their advantage. Substitute Lashawn Roberts, who scored against Police last season, was slipped through on goal by Kaihim Thomas late in the contest, but Jones and the Police defence recovered brilliantly to close down the angle and deny the Tobago striker a shot at goal. Police were determined to get a share of the spoils this time around, and defender Elijah Belgrave sent a close-range effort past Army goalkeeper Jabari St Hillaire in the 89th minute after Joevin Jones put in a teasing free kick from the left flank. In the fourth minute of stoppage-time, St Hillaire, who was deputising for the injured Christopher Biggette, left the Army supporters with their hearts in their mouths when he nervously flapped at a long punt from the back. St Hillaire was just able to fend the ball away from Police substitute Christian Thomas as the derby ended with a share of the points. Police have started the season with back-to-back draws following their 1-1 stalemate with Eagles FC (formerly Cunupia FC) in the first game of the 2023/24 TTPFL season. Brent Sam - At the Larry Gomes Stadium in Malabar, Prisons FC were able to get a second straight win as they defeated Eagles by a 2-1 margin. Striker Ricardo John bagged a double for Prisons, with Eagles forward Ricardo Williams grabbing a consolation goal for his team deep into stoppage-time. After two match days, last season's runners-up AC Port of Spain are one of three teams leading the pack on six points. AC PoS head the 11-team table due to their +5 goal differential. Prisons (+4 goal difference) and Terminix La Horquetta Rangers (+3 goal difference) are in second and third spots respectively. Defence Force are in fourth spot with four points from two matches. Tiger Tanks Club Sando round off the top five after getting three points in their solitary match to date. Both Defence Force and Prisons will put their early unbeaten records on the line when they meet at the Arima Velodrome on Friday. Muckette stunner sinks Rangers Khaleem Hyland makes Police debut
Khaleem Hyland FLASHBACK: File photo shows Khaleem Hyland, representing Belgian club KRC Genk, during their UEFA Europa League group stage match against SK Rapid Wien, at the Ernst Happel Stadium in Vienna, Austria, in 2013. trinidadexpress.com/sports/local/muckette-stunner-sinks-rangers/article_b8a3e02c-9949-11ee-b907-4f774333fe5a.htmlFORMER Trinidad and Tobago captain Khaleem Hyland made his Police FC debut in a 2-1 win over the bottom team 1976 FC Phoenix, while Duane Muckette scored a stoppage time stunner as AC Port of Spain edged Terminix La Horquetta Range 2-1 —both matches featuring on Monday’s TT Premier Football League double header at the St James Barracks. Hyland, 34, returned to the local league after seven years playing in Belgium and three seasons in Saudi Arabia. Police have boosted their squad with seven experienced former national footballers —Hyland, Willis Plaza, Daniel Primus, Joevin Jones, Alvin Jones, Keron “Ball Pest” Cummings and Mekeil Willaims— most returning after playing abroad. Hyland came on as a second-half substitute as Police scored a routine win with two first-half goals. Plaza placed the ball to the far corner for 1-0 in just the third minute, after the ball was stolen in midfield and midfielder Gabriel Nanton finished from the centre of the penalty area for 2-0 in the 36th minute. Meanwhile, Rangers appeared headed for a hard-fought draw when Muckette struck a spectacular winner three minutes into added-on time to give AC Port of Spain their third win of the season. Taking a Che Benny pass, Muckette shot from long range and beat keeper Jabari Bryce from distance. Earlier in the contest, defensive midfielder Daniel David redirected Tyronne Charles’ pass high into the net for 1-0 in the 39th minute, but the “Capital Boys” were level at 1-1 just four minutes later when former T&T defender Daneil Cyrus conceded an own goal, his outstretched leg turning a wide cross past goalkeeper Bryce. Police FC raid Prisons 7-0 in TTPFLRONEIL WALCOTT 2 DAYS AGO Police FC midfielder Keron Cummings. PHOTO BY TTPFL - newsday.co.tt/2023/12/18/police-fc-raid-prisons-7-0-in-ttpfl/Police FC recorded the biggest win of the 2023/24 TT Premier Football League (TTPFL) season at the St James Police Barracks on Sunday night, as they hammered Prisons FC 7-0. The victory lifted Police to second on the 11-team table with eight points. Prisons started the season with back-to-back wins against Central FC and Eagles FC (formerly Cunupia FC), but they have hit a stumbling block with consecutive losses against their fellow servicemen – Defence Force and Police. Prisons showed glimpses of their neat passing game in the early stages, and fashioned a chance in the eight minute through striker Ricardo John. However, once Police opened the scoring in the 16th minute via a right-footed volley from man-of-the-match Keron Cummings, the floodgates opened. Cummings and fellow playmaker Joevin Jones were given freedom in midfield, and they made Prisons pay a heavy price. Barring a smart save from a swerving Alvin Jones free kick in the 14th minute, Prisons goalie Kelvin Henry had a rough outing as he conceded four goals in the first half before being substituted at halftime. In the 24th minute, after Henry sloppily conceded a corner, Police went 2-0 up as Mekeil Williams sent a precise header to the far corner. With the Prisons players collectively dropping their shoulders, Police put the game to bed with a pair of goals within the space of 60 seconds. In the 33rd minute, Joevin buried a left-footed shot from just outside the area, with striker Willis Plaza finishing off a sweeping Police raid down the left flank mere seconds later to make it 4-0 at the half. Similar to the first half, Prisons showed flashes of their quality early in the second period as their lively winger Jeremiah Vidale banged a left-footed shot off the bar in the 53rd minute, after a nifty move in the area. That would be the closest Prisons came to a consolation goal, as Police oozed confidence in their possession game and showed no mercy for their counterparts. The in-form Alvin made it 5-0 in the 73rd minute as he calmly converted a penalty after a handball in the area by Prisons defender Seon Thomas. Two minutes later, the evergreen Anthony Wolfe, 39, came off the Police bench to score his team's sixth goal as he beat substitute keeper Kahlil Oliver with a shot into the bottom corner. The Police riot was fittingly rounded off by Cummings in the 82nd minute, as he headed in from close range following a short corner from Jabari Mitchell. Through four matches, Police remain undefeated and are a solitary point behind table-toppers AC PoS (nine points). Defending champions Defence Force are third on seven points. Prisons (six points) have dropped to sixth spot. On Wednesday, Police will visit fourth-placed Tiger Tanks Club Sando (seven points) at the Manny Ramjohn Stadium in Marabella, with Prisons hosting 1976 FC Phoenix (three points) at the Arima Velodrome. Club Sando won the TTPFL match 3-2 --Photo: TTPFL. THE Diego Martin sporting complex has always been the sweet spot for local professional football since the facility was opened, drawing big crowds. Tonight should be no different when the Trinidad and Tobago Professional Football League stages its final round before Christmas, with a double-header at the venue. “Diego” will see TTPFL leaders AC Port of Spain, the “Capital Boyz,” and former two-time Pro League champions, Central FC, doing battle. Meanwhile, two hours earlier from 6 p.m., Eagles FC and Caledonia AIA face off, both coming off weekend wins. And there is also action at the Manny Ramjohn Stadium, Marabella, where Miscellaneous Police FC take on Club Sando in a battle between second and fourth. Sando are coming off a 3-2 win over Defence Force, while Police had the biggest round of the weekend—with six former or current T&T national footballers scoring in a 7-0 rout of early leaders Prison FC. Gift-giving in ‘Diego’ ...AC PoS romp to win, stay top; Noriega wants moretrinidadexpress.com/sports/local/gift-giving-in-diego/article_7cd90608-a05b-11ee-b574-e336b5b82c29.html AC Port of Spain were given eight gifts Wednesday evening in Diego Martin and took them happily to maintain their lead at the top of the Trinidad and Tobago Premier Football League Tier One standings. The early league leaders maintained their strong start to the season with an 8-1 thumping of bottom side Central FC at the Diego Martin Sporting Complex. That fourth consecutive win allowed them to stay two points ahead of Police FC as the TTPFL now goes on a break for the Christmas period. However, coach Walt Noriega was not fooled by the emphatic result. “We have to be a little more solid defensively,” he said afterwards. “Not happy with the goal we gave away tonight. I think we have to execute a little more in the attacking third. Glad for the (Christmas) break so some of the players could get their little rest and the players with the knocks, but there are a lot of things we still need to work on to get that fine-tuning correct.” Police, coming off their 7-0 whipping of Prison FC, edged Club Sando 1-0 at the Manny Ramjohn Stadium for their third win of the campaign. The defeat dropped Sando, previously fourth, down to fifth, after Prison bounced back from their Police licking to blank 1976 Phoenix 3-0 and jump to third. Meanwhile, champions Defence Force were held 1-1 by Heritage Petroleum Point Fortin Civic at the Mahaica Sporting Complex, and in the first match of the Diego Martin double-header, Morvant Caledonia FC beat Eagles FC 2-0. In the second match, former Pro League champs Central would not have been the favourites to snatch the points. However, both management and players would have been disappointed with how easily they surrendered the game, even with AC PoS not being at full strength. Central conceded four goals in each half as lax defending allowed the AC PoS attackers far too much room to do their thing. The die was cast for Central FC after they went 2-0 down in the first 17 minutes of the match. Liam Burns was the first to accept a Central “present” with a smart hooked shot around the six-yard box in the 15th minute after latching on to a Kadeem Corbin cross from the right flank. Both players did their work unchallenged. Two minutes later, John-Paul Rochford also found the net from the right side of the penalty area after being fed a through pass. The defending did not improve for Central just after the half-hour mark, when Sedale McLean was fouled in the penalty area after nutmegging a defender and Kadeem Corbin put the spot kick past goalkeeper Jean-Pierre David. Five minutes later, in the 37th, McLean made it 4-0, banging the ball past David after latching onto a through ball. The half-time interval offered some respite to the Central players, and they did regroup well enough to get the first goal after the break, Miquel Williams finishing off a neat three-man passing move in the 52nd minute to make it 4-1. The goal reflected the early pressure Central FC applied early in the second period, making Marvin Phillip the busier of the two keepers. But Central’s shoddy defending would let them down again late in the match. All four additional AC PoS goals came in the last 20-plus minutes, even with the league leaders being reduced to ten men in the 73rd minute following the straight red card being issued to defender Maurice Ford. The unmarked Brian Armstrong had made it 5-1 three minutes earlier and then substitutes Isaiah Leaock and Che Benny took the tally to eight from the 83rd minute onwards, Leacock bagging his second in the fifth and final minute of added-on time with a tap-in. It was just too easy, a real night of gift-giving. AC PoS go for 5th straight win as TTPFL resumesRONEIL WALCOTT 3 HRS AGO AC Port of Spain's John-Paul Roshford (C) is congratulated by teammates after scoring against Central FC during a TT Premier League match on December 20 at the Diego Martin Sporting Complex. - TT Premier League newsday.co.tt/2024/01/02/ac-pos-go-for-5th-straight-win-as-ttpfl-resumes/LAST season's Trinidad and Tobago Premier Football League (TTPFL) runner-up AC PoS will go after a fifth straight win when the 2023/24 season resumes on Wednesday when they tackle Eagles FC (formerly Cunupia FC) at the Arima Velodrome from 6 pm in the first game of a double-header. AC PoS head the 11-team table with a perfect 12 points from four matches, and have already scored an impressive 16 goals – drubbing the cellar-placed Central FC by an 8-1 margin on December 20 to end 2023 in fine style. AC PoS, who were narrowly pipped to the inaugural TTPFL title by Defence Force last season, will aim to continue their momentum against the eight-placed Eagles. In the second game of the Velodrome double-header from 8.10 pm, a rejuvenated Prisons FC (nine points) will tackle Tiger Tanks Club Sando (seven points) in an intriguing encounter. Prisons are third on the standings, with Sando closely on their heels in fifth spot. At the Hasely Crawford Stadium from 6 pm, the fourth-placed Defence Force (eight points) will meet the sixth-placed Caledonia (six points). The Army have already dropped seven points in the young season, after draws with Police FC and Point Fortin Civic, to go along with a defeat against a Real Gill-inspired Club Sando team on December 15. Coach Lloyd Andrews will hope his Army battalion can find last season's title-winning form early in 2024. At the Phase 2 La Horquetta recreation ground, the enterprising Terminix La Horquetta Rangers (six points) will look to address their indifferent start to the season when they entertain the struggling Central team from 6 pm. Central have lost all five of their matches so far this season – conceding a whopping 20 goals in the process. At the St James Police Barracks from 6 pm, the second-placed Police FC (11 points) will vie to keep their impressive unbeaten run intact when they host the ninth-placed Civic (four points). Police have registered three wins and two draws in their five matches, and have looked a different team thus far this season, with players such as Keron Cummings, Alvin Jones, Joevin Jones and Willis Plaza all featuring prominently. Civic will journey from the South and try to evade Police's capture and end the lawmen's run. ‘Let us play a match at Skinner Park.’Skinner Park , San Fernando refurbish at a cost of $131 million and handed over to the San Fernando City Corporation in February by Prime MInister Dr Keith Rowley .Photo:TREVOR WATSON trinidadexpress.com/newsextra/play-a-football-match-at-skinner-park/article_37e7583e-9821-11ee-8a59-efc76941e6b6.htmlThis was the suggestion of Oropouche East Member of Parliament Roodal Moonilal yesterday, following responses to his claim that the San Fernando park could not be used for sporting events after being refurbished by the Urban Development Corporation of Trinidad and Tobago (UDeCOTT) earlier this year. Speaking at a United National Congress (UNC) news conference yesterday, Moonilal said that the San Fernando business community has offered to sponsor a friendly match between St Benedict’s College and Presentation College at the park, should it be approved by the contractor. “They are offering to pay small fees to the players and offering both schools a small donation for their building funds. We have sponsors for a St Benedict’s-Presentation match, a rematch for the final of South Zone but on one condition. We will sponsor this, but it has to be played in Skinner Park in San Fernando.” “If you can tell us we can use Skinner Park to play a friendly match where the schools will benefit from a donation to their building funds, the players will get a small fee so there are incentives to play that match, we will play it at Skinner Park. I bet you Noel Garcia will indicate that they cannot play a secondary School match at Skinner Park,” he said. Last Monday, Moonilal had called for a probe into the park, which was handed over to the San Fernando City Corporation in February of this year. He said that football matches could not be played at the venue despite the million-dollar revamp undertaken by the UDeCOTT. UDeCOTT responds In response to Moonilal, UDeCOTT chairman Noel Garcia had referred to his statement as reckless and outrageous, adding that the Corporation was willing to offer the MP maths lessons, “since he does not seem to be able to count”. The UDeCOTT last week issued a statement refuting Moonilal’s allegations, stating that the redevelopment of Skinner Park had been done to internationally recognised specifications set by the International Football Association (IFA). The minimum standard field for domestic games as set by the IFA’s board, it said, is 90m x 45m. The field at Skinner Park has dimensions of 90m x 50m—five metres more than the minimum required, said the UDeCOTT. And this dimension, it said, had always been the Park’s field size. “The only change in the Field at Skinner Park that came with its refurbishment was the change in its directional orientation, to prevent direct sunlight in the eyes of goal-keepers—an improvement, which found great favour with stakeholder, the Trinidad and Tobago Football Association, during construction phase Stakeholder Meetings,” said the UDeCOTT. Speaking yesterday, Moonilal said that he had not been the first to raise concerns on the Park’s field size. Referee Osmond Downer, president of the Trinidad and Tobago referee association, had stated that the field’s size had been reduced following the works done. “Do you know they issue a statement to attack me? UDeCOTT issued a statement dated December 6, 2023. They quoted all the figures to say I was wrong, and the ground can host matches and cycling and track and field. Mr Downer himself in an article in the online newspaper said that they changed the field to smaller so today you cannot play adult football at Skinner Park,” he said. Moonilal held up an alleged satellite image of the Park and said that its 18-yard box appeared to be ‘extremely close to its touchline’. “The globally acclaimed footballers of this nation Dwight Yorke, Russell Latapy, many of them played football in Skinner Park in San Fernando. It is the Mecca of Intercol. Recently when there was a match between Presentation College and St Benedict’s in San Fernando, for what is called the South Zone Intercol Final, they had to go to Point Fortin to play that.” First time in history we played the South Zone in Point Fortin, but it cannot play in Skinner Park which we had to pay $147 million for it to be redone. This is where we are. We have a solution to the problem; either you believe what the people are saying, or you believe UDeCOTT,” he added.

Defence Force losing Moore Striker heading to Canadian Premier League
Reon Moore HEADED TO CPL: Striker Reon Moore. trinidadexpress.com/sports/local/defence-force-losing-moore/article_d1995c6e-af4d-11ee-a232-1f28699106e8.htmlPremier League champions Defence Force opened up the title race on Saturday with their 1-0 win over previous leaders AC Port of Spain. But they will have to end the campaign without one of their top attackers. Canadian Premier League side Pacific FC have signed Reon Moore. The 27-year-old Defence Force striker heads for the Starlight Stadium following his second spell with the Army. Defence Force assistant coach Hutson Charles yesterday confirmed Moore’s departure. “He is taking up his contract in March. He will leave probably at the end of February,” Charles told the Express yesterday. And he admitted that Trinidad and Tobago international Moore will leave a void in the Army’s attack. “A player like Reon Moore, he probably will leave a little hole in the team,” said Charles, adding, “We have some up-and-coming youngsters (who will be) given the opportunity to make their mark. We are working to get the players up to speed to try and fill that hole. It’s a big hole...but Defence Force will be okay.” Moore earned his chance with Pacific FC following his form in the CONCACAF Caribbean Cup last year , in which he scored back-to-back goals against Jamaica’s Cavalier FC and Martinique’s Golden Lions FC before adding an assist against T&T side AC PoS. Despite his form over for four games, however, his club failed to progress out of Group A. Moore is also an established presence within the national team, tallying eight goals in 25 appearances for the Soca Warriors. Moore notched two assists in T&T’s Nations League A campaign before scoring the first goal in the Soca Warrior’s 2-1 quarter-final comeback win over the USA. Moore’s professional career began with hometown side North East Stars, before a move to Matura ReUnited the following year. He then enjoyed five fruitful years with Defence Force before testing himself internationally with Guatemalan side Municipal in 2022. But with no goals coming there, he returned to Defence Force last year and has clearly found his footing in the time since. Moore wouldn’t be the only Trinidad and Tobago international in Canada’s top flight. He joins Wanderers captain Andre Rampersad and Atletico Ottawa forward Malcolm Shaw. The league also once played host to the likes of Ryan Telfer, Kareem Moses, and Federico Pena. Third-placed Defence Force will still have Moore in their ranks however, when they take on Terminix La Horquetta Rangers on Friday at the Hasely Crawford Stadium on match day eight. Rangers are five points off new leaders Miscellaneous Police and two behind the Army with a game with hand after they beat Eagles FC 3-0 on Sunday through second half goals by Isaiah Lee (57th), Tyrone Charles (62nd penalty) and Ross Russell Jr (90+4).

AC PoS evade Police FC 1-0 to go top of Premier League
JONATHAN RAMNANANSINGH newsday.co.tt/2024/01/13/ac-pos-evade-police-fc-1-0-to-go-top-of-premier-league/ Police FC Jabari Mitchell (L) holds off AC PoS Michel Poon-Angeron to keep possession during the TT Premier Football League match at the Police Barracks on Friday in St James. - Photo by Daniel Prentice ATHLETIC Club Port of Spain (AC PoS) evaded Trinidad and Tobago Premier Football League (TTPFL) leaders Police FC to steal a narrow 1-0 victory and go top of the table when action kicked off at the St James Police Barracks on Friday. Duane Muckette’s 17th-minute goal in front of a bumper crowd was all that separated the top two teams. His decisive strike affirmed three points for the ‘Capital Boys’ and rose them to pole position on the 11-team standings. AC PoS (18 pts) now hold a slim one-point lead ahead of their Police (17 pts) rivals. The result also ended Police’s seven-match unbeaten run and returned AC PoS back to winning ways after their 1-0 loss to Defence Force last weekend. In the earlier match at the Barracks, third-placed Defence Force stayed on the heels of the leading pair as they defeated fifth-place Terminix La Horquetta Rangers 2-0. Goals from Justin ‘Shiggy’ Garcia in the 67th minute and Rivaldo Coryat in the 85th were good enough to see off Rangers. Army’s three points saw them draw level with AC PoS on 17 pts. Additionally, in a bottom-of-the-table tie at Dwight Yorke Stadium in Tobago, home team 1976 FC Phoenix kept Central winless after seven matches as they swept the visitors 5-1. This came courtesy a hat-trick from striker Mickaeel Jim Gordon (34’, 39’, 77’). However, Real Sebro scored the opener in the 30th before Gordon fired two more past the Central FC custodian before halftime. With a 3-0 advantage heading into the second period, Central FC’s Dominic Douglas pulled one back in the 62nd. But in the 77th, Gordon completed his first hat-trick of the season by finding the back of the net once more. One minute into extra time, Phoenix’s Andes Noray fired home another goal to give the home team a healthy triumph in front of their fans. The result gave the Tobago-based team their second win in seven matches. They soared past Eagles FC (formerly Cunupia FC) into ninth position with six points. Meanwhile, Central FC are yet to notch a victory after seven rounds of matches and are yet to earn a point this season. Also, in the earliest match on Friday, fourth-place Tiger Tanks Club Sando were held to a 1-1 draw by Heritage Petroleum Point Fortin Civic FC at the Larry Gomes Stadium in Malabar. National player Real Gill continued his good run of form by scoring for Club Sando in the 23rd minute. However, seventh-place Point Fortin pulled one back in the 67th courtesy of Andre Etienne. In the last match of matchday eight, Prisons Service FC and Caledonia will play at Arima Velodrome at 6 pm on Sunday.

Real Gill confirms Hailstorm signing, wants to inspire and change lives
JONATHAN RAMNANANSINGH 2 DAYS AGO Attacking midfielder Real Gill, right, has been signed by USL League one team Northern Colorado Hailstorm FC - newsday.co.tt/2024/01/18/real-gill-confirms-hailstorm-signing-wants-to-inspire-and-change-lives/Trinidad and Tobago’s attacking midfielder Real Gill has been officially signed by Northern Colorado Hailstorm FC for 2024, pending United Soccer League (USL) and US Soccer Federation approval. The USL League One club made the announcement on its website on Tuesday. Gill, 20, who currently plies his trade with TT Premier Football League tier one team Tiger Tanks Club Sando, expressed elation with his upward move. He wants to capitalise on this new opportunity to grow and improve as a pro footballer. “This is just the start of my development and I just want to say that I’m very glad to get the chance to go build and make a better name for myself. I view this signing as a point of no turning back and a chance to make a bigger impact for my family and me,” Gill said. The Harpe Place, Belmont resident currently plies his trade for Tiger Tanks Club Sando in the TT Premier Football League tier one, where he has been since May 2023. He scored four times in seven matches for his club this season. Gill made his professional debut with league contenders La Horquetta Rangers FC in 2022. The in-form attacker has six country appearances and one international goal. He has not yet confirmed when he leaves TT for the US. Gill said his agent received a call from Hailstorm after TT defeated USA 2-1 in the Concacaf Nations League quarter-final second leg last November. They were interested in him coming aboard for the new season. This is his first overseas contract. In that game, Gill played 61 minutes before he was substituted off four minutes after TT scored the winning goal. Last July, he was substituted on in the 46th minute for seasoned striker Kevin Molino against the US in a Concacaf Gold Cup group stage match. USA won 6-0. Gill hopes his signing serves as a beacon of hope for young people in his community and the nation. He is determined to make the most of it and wants to inspire young men and women to work hard. “The part that excites me the most is that I’m really getting a good chance out there to go and show that I could be something and change life for my family, change lives in the ghetto, change lives around for my friends; a better way for them to see that it have (things out there) for us. “Other than just being around, you know, and just doing nothing, that kind of way. There are things outside that we could go and do and try to make it, even though where I’m from I never got any bad treatment, no (kinda) gunshot thing because they always protected me, and that’s what I’m really proud about,” he added. Hailstorm coach Éamon Zayed welcomed Gill to the club and spoke of him in high regard. “He’s a dynamic winger, bags of speed, bags of energy. He’s the kind of player that gets fans on the edge of their seat when he has the ball,”Zayed said. Last season, Hailstorm placed third in the USL League One. Gill hopes his presence can be instrumental in guiding them to the title in 2024. “I am excited for the opportunity to play for Hailstorm. Éamon and the staff have built a great team that can win titles and I will do my best to contribute to the winning culture,” he added. Gill is the latest of three signings by the club, joining midfielders Patrick Langlois and Marky Hernandez.

AC PoS lock down Prisons to stretch TTPFL lead, Gill bags winner for Sando
RONEIL WALCOTT O AC PoS Michel Poon-Angeron (R) challenges Prisons FC Jay-son Joseph for the ball during the Trinidad and Tobago Premier Football League match at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, on Friday night, in Port of Spain. AC PoS won 5-1. - Photo by Daniel Prentice newsday.co.tt/2024/01/20/ac-pos-lock-down-prisons-to-stretch-ttpfl-lead-gill-bags-winner-for-sando/Trinidad and Tobago Premier Football League (TTPFL) table-toppers AC PoS (21 points) stretched their lead to four points on Friday night, when they got a massive 5-1 win over Prisons FC (12 points) at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, Mucurapo. Playing the second game of a double-header, AC PoS were relentless against the sixth-placed Prisons outfit, and they put the game well out of reach by the 37th minute – jumping out to an emphatic 4-0 lead. AC PoS forward Isaiah "Bongo" Leacock was in a poaching mood in front of goal, and he bagged a first-half hat-trick with his sharp instincts in the box on full display. Leacock, who featured in TTPFL's tier two last season, opened the scoring for the league leaders in the 14th minute when he squeezed a looping shot over goalkeeper Kahlil Oliver from a tight angle on the left side of the area. With AC PoS' high-pressing style forcing Prisons into several errors in their own half, the hosts dominated proceedings and looked threatening with every wave of attack. In the 19th minute, Leacock doubled his and AC PoS' tally with a close-range header after a Prisons defender valiantly blocked a goal-bound effort from AC PoS captain Duane Muckette. The league leaders were running an early riot against the Prisons team, and the servicemen seemed to have no answers. In the 25th minute, AC PoS defender Malik Mieres got his team's third goal with a close-range header of his own following a left-side corner from John-Paul Rochford. Leacock sealed his hat-trick in the 37th minute with a typical poacher's item, when he tucked away a rebound from a few yards out following an initial goal-saving block by a Prisons defender. With his third goal, Leacock took his season's tally to six goals, and went level with Defence Force attacker Brent Sam atop the TTPFL's goal-scoring charts. AC PoS took their feet off the gas in the second half, and Prisons showed fight and quality in the attacking third upon the resumption after making a few changes to their forward line at halftime. Prisons substitute Jeremiah Vidale thumped the AC PoS bar with a venomous right-footed shot in the 50th minute, before fellow substitute Nathaniel Perouse pulled a goal back eight minutes later with a shot which deflected off veteran defender Radanfah Abu Bakr. Perouse and Vidale combined well in the attacking third, but AC PoS were large and in charge in Mucurao. The "Capital Boys" put the icing on the cake in the 79th minute, when Muckette calmly placed a shot into the bottom corner following a counter-attack. In the first game of the double-header, Nicholas Dillon and Soca Warriors winger Real Gill found the back of the net for Tiger Tanks Club Sando (17 points), who earned a 2-1 win against Caledonia (six points). Dillon gave Sando the lead just before the half, when he slid in a right-footed shot after receiving a slick back heel pass from defender Jamal Jack in the final third. Caledonia equalised in the 51st minute through San Juan North Secondary standout Lindell Sween, who slammed in a rebound after custodian Miles Goodman stopped his initial penalty effort. Gill, who is set to join United Soccer League (USL) team Northern Colorado Hailstorm, sealed the points for Sando in the 77th minute when he sweeped in a right-footed shot from inside the area as the visitors pounced on a dreadful turnover from Caledonia defender Carlyle Mitchell. Sando consolidated fourth spot on the 11-team table, with Caledonia remaining in eight. At the Mahaica Sporting Complex in Point Fortin, home team Point Fortin (11 points) left it extremely late against Tobago's 1976 FC Phoenix (six points) to eke out a 2-1 win. Civic defender Andre Ettienne dramatically scored a winner in the fourth minute of stoppage-time to hand the seventh-placed Point their third win of the season. Earlier, either team scored a penalty in the first half to go into the game locked at 1-1. Ettienne's late heroics ensured the points would not be split.
