Windies name Bravo and Powell in squad for Ireland T20Is
West Indies news
West Indian all-rounder Dwayne Bravo last played an international in 2016 but has been recalled for their three-match T20I series with Ireland.
"Dwayne Bravo was recalled with the specific intention of bolstering our ‘death’ bowling which was identified as an area that really needs improving," Cricket West Indies Lead Selector Roger Harper said in a press release. "His record in this department speaks for itself. He will also be able to act as a mentor to the other ‘death’ bowlers and lend his experience wherever needed."
There is also a recall for 26-year-old Rovman Powell off the back of some strong domestic performances.
Rovman Powell has represented the West Indies in 23 T20Is and 34 ODIsRovman Powell has represented the West Indies in 23 T20Is and 34 ODIs
"Rovman Powell is a genuine all-rounder who we believe can add impetus and up the strike rate at the back-end of the innings," said Harper. "He was excellent in the Colonial Medical Insurance Super50 Cup – where he scored two excellent centuries and a 96 and also had some other good performances."
Fabian Allen and Keemo Paul will both miss the series due to fitness concerns. Allen is still undergoing rehabilition for an injury he picked up on the recent tour of India, while Paul was injured during the second ODI against Ireland. Test captain Jason Holder is being rested for the series.
SQUAD: Kieron Pollard (captain), Dwayne Bravo, Sheldon Cottrell, Shimron Hetmyer, Brandon King, Evin Lewis, Khary Pierre, Nicholas Pooran, Rovman Powell, Sherfane Rutherford, Lendl Simmons, Hayden Walsh, Kesrick Williams
