Jamaica got their two-match tour of the Caribbean off to a rollicking start on Friday night with a 5-1 drubbing of Grenada at the Kirani James Athletic Stadium.
In a game that the Reggae Boyz are using as preparation for the upcoming Nations League that begins on September 9, when they play the Cayman Islands, Daniel Green opened the scoring in the 12th minute.
Peter Lee Vassell doubled the lead in the 20th minute as the Reggae Boyz went into the interval with a 2-0 lead.
The Theodore Whitmore coached side didn’t have to wait long to resume scoring in the second half as Vassell got his second in the 48th minute to put the Boyz up 3-0.
The constant wave of Jamaican attacks saw Grenada score an own goal in the 56th minute when Leon St. John turned the ball into his own net to make it 4-0.
Grenada managed to pull a goal back four minutes later when Rickel Charles ensured that goalkeeper Amal Knight would not keep a clean sheet.
However, Jamaica’s four-goal advantage was restored in the 71st minute when Chevone Marsh got his name in the scoresheet.
Jamaica continued to press for goals but Grenada managed to keep them at bay for the remainder of the lopsided encounter.
Jamaica’s starting XI was Amal Knight, Ladale Ritchie, Ajeanie Talbott, Ricardo Thomas, Fabion McCarthy, Kevaughn Isaac, Tevin Shaw, Alex Marshall, Peter Vassell, Fabian Reid, Daniel Green.
Jamaica will next fly to Barbados where they will play the national team on Tuesday, August 20.
Their next friendly will then be a match against Ecuador on September 7 at the Red Bull Stadium in New Jersey.
